The story in Relinquished has been on my heart for many years. It explores the emotional rollercoaster birth mothers (referring to moms who give up a baby for adoption) go through before and after the actual birth and relinquishment. The child never leaves the mother’s heart, and many events can trigger unwelcome memories for the rest of the woman’s life.
Mothers who become reunited with the adult child are fortunate. And those who develop a close relationship are even more blessed.
While this is not my story per se, I am a birth mother who has gone through all the “feelings” and had the honor of being reunited with my daughter on her 19th birthday, more than thirty-five years ago.
I wanted to share what women like me have gone through for those who haven’t and to let those who have, know they aren’t alone.
Teagan is our birth mother in Relinquished. She’s a typical woman trying to deal with the “what ifs,” “where’s my baby now,” and “if only I could take it back,” but deep down realizing you can’t change the past. But Teagan has the unusual situation of discovering her daughter was adopted by celebrities and something terrible has happened to her. She can’t stay out of it.
