About the Book
Book: The Characters Within
Author: Sunshine Rodgers
Genre: Inspirational Fiction / Romance / Humor
Release date: July 30, 2020
Brittany Myers is stuck. She hates her role as a Cheese Crusader to Florida’s popular Cheddar and Such theme park! She is sick of the guests, the heat and working at the Fun at the Parm Attraction which features the animatronics Patty the Pretzel and Peter the Breadstick.
Her only relief from the monotony is writing chapters in her upcoming novel “The Carnival Ride” where she tells stories with theatrical scenes about her co-workers, her fears and the struggles she faces day in and day out.
With the help of her work family, the man of her dreams and her best friend, Brittany discovers that the magic she is looking for was right inside of her the entire time.

Author Interview
Welcome, Sunshine Rodgers!
The concept of your book, The Characters Within, is intriguing. I’d like to get to know you better, so let’s get right into our Q&A.
Q: What advice would you give your pre-published self?
A: Turn off your inner critic. Don’t let the process scare you. Take it one page at a time. Write what you are passionate about. And stay calm.
My first book took four years before it became an International Best Seller. Being a successful author will take time, but the journey is well worth it. Be your own cheerleader. Celebrate the milestones in your author career. And learn to love what you do; the passion will fly off the pages! And whatever you do…KEEP WRITING!!
**I love that you are advocating being your own cheerleader.
Q: What genre do you write in and why?
A: I have written 11 books:
Christian Nonfiction
- God the Father, Jesus the Big Brother, Holy Spirit the Best Friend
- Be the Sunshine (to be released Summer, 2022)
Inspirational Fiction
- The Characters Within
- Andrew’s First Act
- Once Upon a Time…In a Dental Office
Christian Fiction
- This is My Heaven
- The Creation Project
- The Ring Does Not Fit
Dark Christian Fiction
- After You: A Demon is Always Lurking Nearby
- The Roland Sisters and The Spirit Program
Children’s Books
- Last Night, When I Prayed
- Helpers: A Rescue Mission
I like to write books that inspire and encourage my readers. I fill my pages with content that strengthen the reader’s faith and I like to write about the supernatural realm in relatable stories.
**The diversity of your book content is inspiring.
Q: Do you have a favorite setting? Is it a real location or fictional?
A: Do I have a favorite setting that I use in a book? Yes, of course!
I like to write my Christian Fiction novels set in Heaven. In fact, my books, Last Night, When I Prayed and This is My Heaven are about angels who work in Paradise. My dark fiction novel, The Roland Sisters and the Spirit Program take place in Heaven as Alfred is a Counselor to two sisters who need to reconcile their differences. My historical fiction novel, The Creation Project is set in Heaven and Earth as this book retells the Genesis story from God’s point of view.
On the opposite spectrum, my dark Fiction novel After You: A Demon is Always Lurking Nearby is set in Hades about a who demon works under Lucifer.
**I don’t think I’ve seen many novels set in heaven. It is distinctive and amazing setting.
Q: If you are multi-published author, which books was the hardest to write? Why?
I mentioned earlier about my dark Christian fiction novel, After You: A Demon is Always Lurking Nearby. It is rated PG-13. The main character, Amon, is on assignment from Lucifer to capture Jennifer but her praying friends and her Church group are getting in the way!
I had to get into a dark mindset to write that story. I describe Hades and I transformed into the role as a devilish character with an evil perspective.
It was definitely an experience to write that book and I’m happy After You is well-received by readers (this book is my most popular book to date!)
**I can only imagine your experiences while writing with a dark mindset. What a blessing the book was so well received.
Q: Are you at work on a new novel? Can you tell us a little about it?
A: I am working on my newest Christian Nonfiction Book, Be The Sunshine.
Be The Sunshine is a 5-part message about spreading love and kindness out into the world.
Part 1 is about Acting in Kindness (how to serve, share peace and offer forgiveness).
Part 2 is about Shouting Goodness (building up the body of Christ and emphasizing Church Unity).
Part 3 is about holding A Fresh Perspective (standing on God’s Promises and focusing on blessing others).
Part 4 is about The Power of Love (loving God, loving your neighbor, loving yourself)
Part 5 answers the question “Why do we not help?” (the excuses we make and the fears we create)
Be The Sunshine is set for a primarily Christian audience. 87 Bible verses were used representing 9 different translations for clarity, easy to understand passages and relatable terminology. I have interviewed 6 Christian leaders and mentors who add their personal testimonies to this piece. This book will be released Summer, 2022
**Be the Sunshine sounds incredible. I can’t wait to read it.
Thank you, Sunshine, for spending time with me today. It was fun getting to know you and your writing.

More from Sunshine
“This book is about…me. I spent over 5 years working at a theme park, barely surviving the mess, the mayhem and the craziness that often occurred on-stage and backstage. I used that immersive experience to write my novel, “The Characters Within.” This story is about Brittany Myers, a Cheese Crusader who has to wear this silly costume and repeat these corny sayings and hear the same annoying tunes playing over and over again. But she really wants to be an Author.
And that’s where I found myself. At a backstage break room, writing this book as Brittany was writing hers. I have included 35 real-life people as characters (those who survived the madness with me!) and together we invite you to join us…as I now lift the curtain to “The Characters Within” – a Book-within-a-Book, Part Musical, Part Love Story and 100% pure entertainment!”
