How can she forgive a man she isn’t sure she ever knew?
Melissa Bainbridge doesn’t have time to grieve. She has three kids to feed, bills stacked high enough to crush her, and guilt–oh so much guilt.
When her husband’s death is ruled a suicide, her financial stability and identity die with the man she now wonders if she ever knew. How could he choose to leave them like this? How could she have lived with him for 15 years and not known of his fragile mental health?
A journey of discovery reveals more questions than answers until Melissa finally faces her fears and tries to understand the mind of the man she thought she knew and never did.
The journey from despair to hope leads Melissa beyond grief and into the light of forgiveness in Providence.
BOOK EXCERPT
The thin slacks encasing my legs are no protection from the numbing cold and Eli’s dead weight as he nestles against my chest. Dad and Ryan stand behind me, each with a heavy hand on my shoulder, anchoring me in the chair as if they fear I might float away if they leave their post.
Josh and Emily bookend me, and I wrap my arms around their thin shoulders and pull them close, in an attempt to give them comfort and seek it for myself, wherever I can find it. But we are all less than we were a week ago, as Trevor was the constant in our lives—the glue that held the pieces of our family together.
“It’s over, Lissa.” Dad’s whisper in my ear pulls me from my thoughts. “Let’s get the kids into the car.” He lifts Eli from my lap and begins the procession across the frost-crusted lawn.
Naomi and Paul, Trevor’s parents, take Emily and Josh by the hand and follow suit.
My brother, Ryan, drops into the vacated chair beside me. “You ready?” His eyes are red-rimmed with sympathy as they meet mine. “It’s too cold to hang out here for long.”
