If you are anything like me, you love to get a sneak peek at things before they actually happen.
So I’d love to share with an excerpt from my upcoming release The Fragrance of Violets. I’ve chosen a scene, divided it into six sequential parts, and am sharing part one today. Read each day to get the entire scene.
Excerpt – Day One
Tormented by a roaring in her ears, Fiona fled from the lobby, berating herself for acting like an idiot when she’d seen Nason. Despite anticipating it could be him, she was so shocked her muscles had gone weak and her body wouldn’t move. Her eyes must have mimicked Nason’s, wide and staring.
Irina’s gasp echoed in her mind. And poor Rick. He’d recognized her, although he’d only been eight years old the last time they’d seen each other. Even if Rick hadn’t been with Nason and Irina, she would have recognized him. He looked so much like his father. Of course, everyone had said how much she looked like Nason, too, and she’d been so proud of it. Her mother’s coloring was the exact opposite. Black hair, deep brown eyes, and an olive complexion. Yet Maeve was her mother, and Nason was not her father. Neither biologically nor in practice since she was twelve.
Escaping into the first set of restrooms, she locked herself in a stall where she sagged against the door and her body shook uncontrollably. She’d dreamed of their reunion, and it looked nothing like this. She pictured him begging her for forgiveness and giving her a big bear hug like he used to.
They hadn’t even spoken.
What happens next? How will Fiona deal with meeting her long-lost father figure? Check back tomorrow.
