The FBI was established in 1908 but wasn’t known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation until 1935. Former director J. Edgar Hoover spent 48 years as head of the agency; however, directors are now limited to ten-year terms. Under Hoover, female agents were not allowed to attend the FBI Academy (and were seldom hired) until Hoover’s death in 1972, when two women were admitted to the academy. The FBI’s crime laboratory is one of the largest in the world.
I’m fortunate to have a friend in the FBI who fights crime on many fronts (and gave me a little advice for my book).
