This photo of my character, Steve Grayson, may look a little familiar. For A Heart for News, I named the racecar driver Steve Grayson, a nod to Elvis Presley’s character in the movie Speedway. I even imagined my Steve Grayson to look like Elvis.
Beyond looks and occupation, this Steve is different. He follows the Lord, albeit a bit imperfectly. Because he’s been taken advantage of by fans, women, and journalists, he is wary sometimes to the point of rudeness. Integrity in business is important to him, and he is devoted to his parents and sister. (You’ll meet his sister Rachel in book three.)
A love for speed and racing is dampened by his racecar accident a few months earlier. During his recovery in the Suamalies, he’s trying to get beyond the residual fear to race again. Despite that, he’s fun loving and has a zest for life.
Will he overcome his fears, get over his prejudice of women and journalists? Forgive Margo?
