Q: Everyone calls you Granny. What’s your real name?
A: Oh, heavens! At 90, I never think about that anymore. Let’s see, oh, yes, Ardith Parsons.
Q: You’ve lived with your granddaughter Teagan for many years. How and why did that happen?
A: I had a few mishaps in my 80s and my family thought I was senile or something. Heavens! Those weren’t anything. When they suggested some ol’ dingy assisted living place, I put my foot down. I didn’t want to leave my own home of so many decades. Besides, my darling Teagan needed support during her unfortunate circumstances. She was so sweet to agree to live in my home with me. We’ve helped each other, and I love having her here.
Q: Where do you live?
A: We live in a mid-century ranch-style house in Mission Viejo, California. It isn’t much, but it’s comfortable.
Q: What do you enjoy doing?
A: I love watching the news. It gives me the opportunity to pray for people whom I don’t know but desperately need the Lord’s help. I also knit. Tried to teach Teagan, but she was all-thumbs. My other granddaughter Bobbie took right to it. Cooking has always been a joy. Of course, I’m not as spry as I used to be, so I don’t do it as much.
Q: Speaking of cooking, tell us about your famous lasagna.
A: Oh, my. I’ve been making that for decades. The recipe came from my mother and her mother before that. The family raves about it, so I guess it’s pretty good.
Q: Tell us about the rest of your family.
A: Let’s see. I have two sons, Ned and Calvin, and two daughters-in-law, Francis and Esther. A daughter, Cora, and son-in-law, Daniel. Calvin is Teagan’s father and Cora is Bobbie’s mother. I have eight grandchildren in all. My first great-grandchild was Teagan’s little girl, but now I have seven other great-grands.
